    Ordered the €64 Lifetime VPS

Where is the 50% off coupon code? coz I want to buy moar!!!

worried a bit too much about this code running for this long...

shit's already getting out of hand IMO

Seeing this status is a bit worrying, it means there are more lifetime users. Hopefully it will last at least 1 year and I won't feel like I've lost anything.

Lifetime products are an investment in the company's lifetime, basically. Don't invest money you can't afford to loose. Same applies for investments like stocks/ETF etc.
This isn't meant to sound harsh, just be aware what you are committing to.

That being said, I don't think ZAP will be going anywhere anytime soon.

Echo that. Damn, the new one is totally an idler exacly because the old one got upgraded and is an epyc, and the new is a qemu in molasses.
    old:
    Processor : AMD EPYC 7763 64-Core Processor
    Single Core | 1298
    Multi Core | 3998
    new:
Processor : QEMU Virtual CPU version 2.5+
    Single Core | 410
    Multi Core | 1137

after a surprisingly positive experience with first LTD (XEON CPU based) i also bought another one, turns out the second one is with QEMU Processor and is noticeably WAY slower. I'm afraid the two results above reflect the difference pretty well.

  • For anyone wondering about IPv6... they revamped their "suggestions" page and this thread is all about it:
    https://roadmap.zap-hosting.com/en/p/ipv6-in-the-big-2025

No exact dates other than it being on the low priority list, unfortunately. They are focused right now on bringing in new hardware and working out inner technical aspects.

Sitting on 4 lifetime vps here, but in case you haven't bought in yet, maybe now's the time, before lifetime prices are increased or may even be discontinued in face of the hw market changes (cf. Hetzner, OVH and other price increases).

I used to have hetrixtools setup, but currently I don't since servers are idling. Maybe someone else can provide stats. That said, I only run wg on them, so even if there was high steal, I likely wouldn't notice it much.

on my nodes i see practically none when i check top, which i currently do regularly during testing of a project. (not sure though if that is reliable.)

I just openend a ticket to ask what type of CPU I will get. But their chatbot response is not very valuable.

    Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

With our VPS plans, you’ll generally receive >>AMD EPYC 7000 Series hardware.

However, there is no fixed selection or guarantee of a specific CPU model per order for VPS; allocation is done automatically based on location and available host hardware.

The “QEMU Virtual CPU” display in benchmarks is not unusual for virtualized systems and does not automatically mean that AMD EPYC hardware is not being used in the background.

For the Easter Flash Deal with the FFM / Eygelshoven location, you can therefore expect a KVM VPS on an AMD EPYC 7000 Series platform, but not a specific CPU model guaranteed in advance.

Did anybody order a VPS in their FFM / Eygelshoven location recently and can share what CPU you received?

I usually spin up yearly VMs with my credits. My 2 last VMs that I launched a few months ago have both landed in EPYC nodes. I created my last one on the 27.02.2026 (all EPYC nodes are 7763 I believe, they just purchased a shit ton in bulk)

  • Thanks @zgato that sounds promising.

You can always ask to be moved to another Host with your preferred architecture, if available. They happily "migrated" mine, well not really migrated as I need to reinstall the OS, but whatever.

Also on 21st of April should be another anniversary deal, if they do it the same way as last year. There would definitely be flash vouchers for vServer and dedicated server again

Thanks. Waiting for that. I was to hesitant during their easter sale because I feared landing on a shitty Qemu CPU.

afaik, CPU type is always host. If you want to make sure, create a ticket beforehand and say something like,"Hey, I want to buy a lifetime VPS, but I heard that you still provision old Intel Xeon. Can you migrate me, if I land on on Intel node to an Epyc?". This will make sure, they will do it after you bought it.

Edit: looked at some previous posts, was wrong about that CPU type, these must be really really old nodes

  • One of my lifetimes is still on Xeon, but the rest are Epyc now (or always have been, for the more recent ones). I did ask about transitioning the oldest one over, it's old and what they used to call a rootserver, but they didn’t have the capacity for it at the time.

my QEMU based host has been moved to an EPYC host some time ago, so now i have a 4C "old Xeon" and a 4C "new EPYC", both with 8 GB Ram.

to compare their performance i installed Ollama and the exact same LLM "Qwen 3.5 4B" on both, it fits into 8GB and runs ok-ish on CPUs, and uses all cores 100% when generating text.

I asked the same question in the chat on both, and guess what, the Text-Generation on EPYC and Xeon ran at exactly the same speed. Word by word in parallel.

TLDR: dont worry about the Name of the CPU you're shown....

  • So, according to the latest blog update, if you don't pay for the monthly pass, you can't access your lifetime server anymore. Sooo, we all foresaw this, right?

Bump justification: There is an update on pricing

That's not what they're saying at all, read https://zap-hosting.com/en/blog/2026/10/lifetime-behind-a-paywall/

    • ZapX is completely optional, you can stay on legacy indefinitely.
    • Your legacy lifetime servers stay lifetime until you choose to upgrade to ZapX
    • ZapX has a subscription maintenance thing (ZapX Pass) for lifetime services.

Just read about this too. Probably best not to upgrade at all, of you never wanna pay for ZapX and use your server. In the comments ZAP says that opting for ZapX is a one-way decision. Once you do, you can only use your lifetime products with ZapX. If you cancel ZapX, the server gets locked. You can continue to use your lifetime vps without a monthly fee if you choose to never go to ZapX, in which case you can apparently continue to use the old panel (that is no longer being developed..sooo?).
Anyway, as long as the old panel supports start/stop, adding ssh key and reinstall, that's all I need.

FYI: This change mostly should not hold up in court btw. As a German and European you most definitely can challenge this. Especially the fact that if you opt for the new panel once and don't want to continue paying for it anymore your server gets locked and you can't use your server anymore. That's bs. You purchased the server, not the panel. The server is the main product you purchased. So they need to ensure you can continue that product regardless of whether you opt for ZapX or not. If you don't want to use ZapX after a while they then would probably have to at least provide SSH access and reinstall via Ticket. They can't just say "your server is locked now, unless you sub gor ZapX". Gemini Pro was throwing many paragraphs of law at me that ZAP violates with this. I'll probably also ask my legal insurance for a written statement, as that's included in my insurance.

  • @Ympker said: you most definitely can challenge this

i don't think so, the moment you go for ZapX you sign a NEW contract that REPLACES your old contract (there will for sure be legal text like that in the offer, that you accept by clicking on the buy-button). Thats why they offer if for "free" to try. The moment you click, your old contract is gone, and with it your lifetime-rights.

What they can't do, is force you to do it, because that would mean changing your contract without your consent.

And THAT could of course be challenged in court.

Thats why they don't force it actively, just passively by not "developing" the old panel anymore, which is the buildup of the argument, that they will come up with at some point in the next years: "unfortunately we cannot continue this offer because it is sooo outdated".

I'm pretty sure they would force you to accept some new terms, whether that procedure is legally correct though, is another question. I'll definitely have this checked by legal insurance once I have the time to deal with this, otherwhise probably stick to the legacy panel.

Gemini indicated that the whole procedure is flawed, but then again this is just AI. Make of it what you will:

  • Gemini said basically the same in really long prose: They cant force you, and according to their text, they dont do it and will keep providing the current panel in the future.

I agree that the process is at least in a grey area, if they dont explicitly explain the consequences of "trying" the new panel. Losing the LTD could for sure be challenged by consumers.

TLDR: no LTD customer should even think about switching to ZapX.

  • edited October 22

@someTom said: TLDR: no LTD customer should even think about switching to ZapX.

ZapX has everything I do not want anything remotely close to my server, wtf?

    • Mobile apps that are either a webview or slop or have less features than the actual panel
    • AI where you don't control and don't pick model runs commands on your server
    • AI where you don't control and don't pick model reads and modifies files on your server
    • Controlling server from Discord bot, WTF is the point of hardware key 2FA on the panel if it will accept a discord message?
