Hello. I hope my message does not violate the rules of this thread, but I have a problem getting the provider tag I created 2 tickets on the topic of getting a Provider tag, but did not receive any response. The first ticket was sent 15 days ago. I hope here I will be prompted, maybe I missed something. (The account meets all the conditions specified in the general rules and the requirements in the ticket itself as mandatory fields, but again, maybe I missed something).

Honest question- Can we have a no snooping rule for providers? What happens in a private box stays in a private box.
Nuance may help to protect individual privacy and help future providers be successful from the get go. I think we all have seen that the community really values privacy. Tis all.

How exactly do you define snooping? A provider looking at what files are stored in an ftp storage account? What about a provider looking at the .bash_history of a web hosting customer of a shared hosting plan? Or maybe a provider looking at what scripts a customer is trying to install on a shared hosting plan?

I was assuming providers not snooping was the default, but I do ask what prompted this ask.
Edit: Got caught up on the likely thing that prompted this. Lol, okay yeah that's definitely not normal. No need to make a rule for it. Do a stupid, lose your clients.

Instead of a host, consider you are a landlord and are renting out a room or a house. Do you go to the house in secret and peep or install cameras to look at what the client is doing in the room to ensure they are not doing anything illegal? If there is a complain, only then the landlord will go down, with proper authorities (building security guard or police) to investigate.
As long as there isn't an active complaint or issue with the users data, keep out of it. Do not run scans against the users data or network activity. Do not open or read any of the files created/modified by the user unless absolutely necessary. And finally, keep out of /home and /var/www directories...
I think that without any concrete evidence or solid necessity (IP abuse, abnormal PPS count, takedown requests, or other shit-stirring stuff), no provider will waste its time spying on customers. I mean, who the heck has time for that? (And also, for what? As long as customers are playing by the provider’s rules, this becomes nonsense.)
Also, a well-set-up infrastructure, with proper limits and traffic rules, will automatically throttle or limit the impact of any abuser on a node or network.
Now, if legal actions are taken by an authority (like a notification or worse), any provider (and any of you guys too, if you were in our situation) will comply 100%. Because seriously, who the heck wants to go to court or put their whole business (and ultimately all their customers) in jeopardy for whatever amount of money one single customer is paying, right?
All of the above is our input on the matter.
Now, if a provider does spy on its customers without any real reason, that's a massive red flag, and customers should look for another place to host their stuff. There is no legal right for that to happen without a real legal basis — and here I really mean tangible evidence.
The legal right to the stored data belongs to the customer, regardless of whether it’s copyrighted material or anything else.
The provider has no right to look inside the service or spy on the customer — their only obligation is to obey the law and take action if and when legally required.
Alternatively, the provider can suspend or terminate the service if the customer’s actions put the infrastructure or other customers in jeopardy (such as through DDoS attacks or other malicious activities performed by that user). Or if the customer does not obey the TOS/AUP

If community is really for "no snooping rule" I think it would be better to generalize it as "no questionable practices" that include snooping as well as any other behavior that is not approved by a community, but ban can be too much, maybe a separate role?

I don't visit OGF, so I don't know the reference, but how would we know that the report from a, perhaps disgruntled, customer is reporting exactly what has happened?
It's not like the Provider could/would/should reply in the open with customer details to an outsider of the business relationship.
That would be a breach of GDPR and that action itself wouldn't create confidence towards that Provider.
Let's review an example: A (former) customer of NameCrane writes a community report of suspected snooping of their data.
Do you think that @Francisco would share the story with me, as a forum administrator? To be the judge in this case?
I only used Fran as an example, as he is a well-known provider with great integrity.
I mean, wouldn't the report be enough? If you write an honest review on the forum, people will have the chance to read it, and make their own decision if they should sign up with that provider.
As long as their are no personal attacks in the review, and its somewhat backed up with some sort of proof, then I would keep it in the Review category.

AI assisted auto-complete coding makes coding faster by at least 50% (in my experience). Dont get AI to generate entire code block for you, but assist you in completing the line. Give it a try with VS Code + Github Copilot.
