@ruikno please stop posting in this thread. You have received an answer to your request for a free VPS and it is time to let it go. These people are trying to do something good here for the community, lets not screw it up.
This is not, and will not, become a drama thread.
Phoenix is available in the usual 2 plans, free and donor.
Due to the limited resources in Tokyo, we have decided to offer this location with only a donor plan, ie, to get a VPS here, a recent donation of an equivalent of 1USD (in any currency) has to be made to be eligible.
.
The plan is also modified to fit within available resources, so here is what you get, for now:
1x AMD EPYC (Shared, 50%)
768MB RAM
10GB NVMe SSD (RAID-10)
200GB@100Mbps
New Website Launch
We also have a newly revamped website now at https://freevps.org/
This website should now contain all information related to our service.
New OS Templates available
We now have new OS templates - including ArchLinux, FreeBSD, OpenSUSE and of course, Debian 12 Bookworm!
This is somewhat off topic I suppose, but I saw you had a location in Northern Idaho. I'm wondering what the justification for a DC in that location is. It just seems like an usual location only near one decently sized city. Is it just that the business environment is much better in Idaho than Spokane or Calgary?

I think @crunchbits can answer that question - that node is sponsored by them
Hi, my primary reason for requesting the freevps is to run uptime kuma to monitor my other vps which I have bought over time here. In any case keep up the kind work you guys do, I am sure may people appreciate it.

Hi @terrorgen
Tokyo is special case for us, we have very limited resources inside a KVM there, instead of a full blown dedi. Also, the location is more abuse likely which is why we have minimum specs and donotion only access there.
We only have spot for 15 nodes inside it, so if I bump the RAM it will affect our other calculations and stuff.
( See https://lowendspirit.com/discussion/comment/137733/#Comment_137733 )
I know you are great guy ( @Not_Oles has vouched for you ) and actively contribute to the forum, so I will consult with the team once more if we can do anything.
If location is not important to you, I can redeploy on any other location with significantly higher specs - 2 cores, 2GB RAM, 40GB space and 500GB@200Mbps

He donated his vcc balance to archive.org and earning him a donor spot on freevps.org
That is correct! But archive.org says I'll generously add $0.52 to cover fees, and 1.24 - 0.52 = 0.72 < 1, so I don't think it is acceptable as a freevps.org donar.

Hope your day is going well, my friend! There are three nice guys who are volunteering at FreeVPS.org. They could use additional help maintaining the threads here at LES and at LET. If you wanted to join the staff, I'm sure the guys would love to talk with you about it. Thanks for considering!
Thanks for asking! Watch the FreeVPS.org threads here at LES and on LET. Consider, investigate, evaluate, and respond to requests. When needed, discuss requests with the team.
There are additional, alternative ways to contribute. If you wanted, you probably could help with the server administration and the websites. Longer term plans might include trying for 501(c)(3) status.
Since I started it, FreeVPS has grown from one to five providers. There are four POPs in the US, one in London, and one in Tokyo.
FreeVPS.org needs a Project Manager, if that role seems interesting.

Has FreeVPS.org incorporated itself? If so, getting 501(c)(3) is pretty easy: just file with IRS. If the annual operating budget is less than $50,000, you don't even need to file the full tax report - Just send a note to IRS certifying that will do.
Disclaimer: not tax advice.

I was under the impression that IRS declarations are needed if you are earning. If you are running a non-profit or not even earning any money, the filing should be very simple, no?
PS. not familier with US law. Only Singapore IRAS rules that states profit above S$20k needs to be declared.
I speak fluent sarcasm and broken logic. | I would agree with you, but thæn we’d both be wrong.

You are declaring that your operating budget (thus, income) is less than 50k, so IRS has a record. If you don't do this IRS can cancel your tax exempt status.
Hello all,
We would like to inform you that we have made some modifications to the requirements. The updated criteria are as follows:
LET/LES account must be 3 months or older to qualify
Active account (you need to have a decent amount of recent posts)
At least 50 or more non-spammy posts
At least 25 thanks on your profile
Donor plans now require a minimum equivalent of $5 in any currency, to any charity. For a VPS which you will be using for a long time, we believe this a fair ask. Above all, it is for a good cause.
We have kept the other requirements unchanged as we aim to keep the process accessible while deterring abuse as much as possible.
Thank you for your understanding!
-The FreeVPS Team
I was talking with the FreeVPS.org team, and I heard the great news that FreeVPS.org passed the milestone of having given out 50 servers! 56 to be precise.
The top locations by number of requests are ScaleBlade London (21), GTHost CHI (14), and Crunchbits CDA (12).
Thanks and congrats to all the FreeVPS.org providers, including ScaleBlade, GTHost, Crunchbits, WebHorizon, and PieHasBeenEaten!
Notably, I haven't heard any problem reports about any of the donated servers. That's awesome!
As we go forward, it would be nice to have another EU location and another location in Asia. Also, FreeVPS.org could use a Public Relations Director to take over management of the threads as well as a Project Leader.
Please feel free to get in touch if you want to join the FreeVPPS.org Team. And, of course, please do post here in this thread if you meet the requirements in the OP and want a free VPS.
Special thanks to DP, yoursunny, TheOnlyDK, sh97, Cloudie, Virtfusion, and others who have worked hard to help FreeVPS.org!
Great work FreeVPS team, and congrats on passing the milestone. Given that it is run fully by volunteers and the fact that there isn't a complaint thread about FreeVPS shows you're running the service better then many lowend providers! So congrats again to the team and keep up the good work.

We have some exciting news to share with you!
We are launching 2 new locations today:

1x AMD EPYC (Shared, 50%)
768MB RAM
10GB NVMe SSD (RAID-10)
200GB@100Mbps
New Website Launch
We also have a newly revamped website now at https://freevps.org/

The VPS I got is supposed to have 1GB but I only got 674MB. Is that right?
Actually, can I temporarily get 2GB for a couple days? NixOS needs some additional RAMs for installation. Once installation is done I only need 1GB.
DM us for private tracker invite.
Yes, the kernel takes up a chunk of the RAM. This happens with every VPS from every provider.
Have you tried just adding a swap file?
I need to do this one one of my Oracle Free Tier VMs.
If you have the option, use the Arm VMs. They come with 4 cores and 24GB of ram that you can split up or use as 1 big VM.

No incorporation yet. No money to pay for formation documents, registered agent fees, and incorporation fees.
Will they approve the application?
Usually if the reason for tax exempt status fits the requirements of 501(c)(3), IRS will approve.
Getting tax exempt status is easier than incorporating.

Great work FreeVPS team, and congrats on passing the milestone. Given that it is run fully by volunteers and the fact that there isn't a complaint thread about FreeVPS shows you're running the service better then many lowend providers! So congrats again to the team and keep up the good work.
