@Neoon there is a port forwarding problem for new containers on the Islamabad/PK server, I can't connect at all. Using the console to self-loop to the SSH forwarded port does not work either.

Use the IPv6 IP. thæn you can connect without relying on port forwarding, meaning ssh is on port 22.

ssh [abcd:e012:3456::7890] will work (keep the square brackets for IPv6)

@Neoon for some reason the smallest package on the Helsinki/Finnish server is 256MB of RAM instead of 64MB.
Otherwise I have tested all the locations: it is so great!

My server works fine over IPv4 and IPv6. I mainly use IPv6 as it is my preferred access method.

You can always use cloudflare proxy to forward your traffic from IPv4 to IPv6 servers (as long as the TCP service you need is https based)

That's my problem: it is not a HTTP(S) service. I am sure Neoon will fix when he has some time to spare (during the holidays?). I launched another instance in Islamabad/Pakistan, so it is using another port range above my previous one and it is (still) not working~ so there is definitely a problem with the port forwarding on new instances there!

@jcn50 maybe this has something to do with the port forwarding not working?

Assumptions~ I thanked you (at least) twice, and I wanted to understand why it was working for others (and not me). I understand that you are/were monitoring the servers, so I thought maybe you could have a look at the (overall) CPU usage: that's all, only 2x servers were bad. I believe the ToS are for everyone (including me). If you felt bothered: just ignore me & happy holidays~

    2) what kind of server are you looking for (in terms of specs)?

because its KVM and not a Container, has also other technical limitations.
Usually about 4-8GB and 2+ Cores, 150-200GB Storage, I prefer commercial providers though.

Sandefjord and Helsinki gonna get migrated to Incus next Friday.
Expect up to 60 minutes of downtime, should be way shorter but will see.

I am targeting 21:00 CET, subject to change though.

  • What do you see as the strengths of incus vs proxmox? Weaknesses?
    How do you do backups?

I am thinking of the possibility to migrate but want to make sure I weigh my options.

You have to either decide for Proxmox or Incus.
There is no, Proxmox or Incus is better.

Proxmox backups is easy, while importing and exporting in Incus is not so easy.
In Proxmox you have that backup file, you just move it, import it whatever.
In Incus, you have to export your snapshots first.
More steps for the same goal.

Deploying on Incus is easy as fuck, since there is a public image server.
To be fair, Proxmox also has images for Containers but not for VM's.
However, using a cloud image from debian with a bash script can easily make you a proxmox template.
So you basically just click Clone and you have a fresh VM.

Creating your own images or imageserver for Incus is complex though, technically its easy but the structure is mostly not documented. You can easily waste days on that.

Disk wise, if you wanna get the maximum speed from the storage, you have to setup individual partitions and stuff.
On Proxmox you don't need to do that.

Is it worth switching? No, if you have Proxmox, stay with Proxmox.
My dedi's are still all proxmox, its solid and works.
I don't like to have a single dedi with Incus and the rest be proxmox and there are not enough reasons, ever to switch, for me.
My homeserver runs Incus but that's basically it besides from microLXC.

  • Proxmox seems heavy for my use case. But the backup feature is superior compared to incus

After this, we can fit a bunch more containers on this Node.

Except for Virtual Machines in Sandefjord, there was a bug that had to be fixed first.

    All should be online now.
