NEW FTPS Support + rClone
We've been working hard on improving the cloud storage functionality to give you even more ways to utilize our large storage offers.
We've still got our custom rClone builds and are working to get our storage API added to the mainline rClone releases. We recently completed a full overhaul of our backend storage API to improve rClone performance. You can find our rClone builds on Github here.
We've also built a custom FTPS connector so you can interact with your CraneMail storage from any app/service that supports FTPS. We're still testing this out and making improvements, but it's available today on port 8221.
SFTP support is coming, we're still working on it. The best place to learn more and discuss/get help with the beta features is on our Discord - you can join us here: https://discord.gg/tRbJjyVvmj
NEW EU Location
We've said goodbye to Luxembourg and Hallo to Amsterdam, our new EU location for all web and email hosting services. Web hosting plans were already live migrated over the past 2 weeks.
This move brings a bunch of improvements to our services, but the biggest is definitely connectivity. We're utilizing Eranium as our upstream with a higher quality bandwidth blend, plus a 100G peering port on ERA-IX to further improve our connectivity within the EU.
NEW Affiliate Program
We've opened up our affiliate program so you can now earn a commission to referring friends to NameCrane.
We support payouts as account credit, via PayPal, as well as Wise - including wise-to-wise transactions and other supported methods like bank transfers and AliPay/WePay. Transaction fees are subtracted from your payout amount for Wise transactions that have a transaction/conversion fee paid by the sender.
Login to your NameCrane account and activate the affiliate program here.

Happy customer of the lifetime plan
Dumb question: is there a way for me to search emails and have it actually search my entire inbox rather than just the last couple days? Not sure if that's a limitation of SmarterMail or if there's something I'm missing
yabs daddy
I found I had to reindex my mail to fix that.
Log in with an domain admin account in SmarterMail then go More -> Domain Settings -> (right click on mail user) -> Reindex.
That did the trick, thanks a ton!! Was looking for that everywhere but didn't realize that right-clicking on a user presented more options. All fixed up now

Is it possible to use your own domain to login in webmail or its available only for resellers?
yes you can, no problem.
you just CNAME your mail address to the (us1/eu1).workspace.org and it will automatically get the letsencrypt cert and all for you.
Anyone can white label workspace.org as well by doing a cname to that domain
actual branding (changing the page colours and stylesheet) will be limited to resellers in the future.
Francisco
Is it possible to send from any email address in a domain (the equivalent of catch-all, but for sending)? or do you have to create (even if temporarily) aliases?
Happy customer at AlexHost, AxusHost, Bakker-IT, Host-C, Ionos, Veesp + NanoKVM ftw.
you can send as any address within that domain. even if it is a catch all.
How to configure this?
Can’t find the option to send from the alias. Tried Webmail, iOS mail app
Why?
Thanks. I receive email to hundreds of addresses (thanks to catchall) - I would hate having to configure hundreds of aliases just to be able to reply...

depends on the client, in eM Client it has an option to add send as aliases so you can send as them. but the server itself allows you to send as different addresses than the one you are logged in as.
Sending from a catch-all isn't a thing on webmail yet.
If you have named aliases then you can pick them in the webmail popup and just set it in the 'FROM' drop down.
Francisco
I like it, already using it for two of my clients.
Amadex • Hosting Forums • root.hr
OK, in eM Client, I can see the option to reply from the alias to which the mail arrived, but the reply mails never go to the sender.
Why?
I just found a option you may need to enable in the namecrane control panel, not smartermail
edit this option on your aliases
edit: ok my bad again, this is not for catch all, will work on it
edit2: enabled the same on Catch All and it worked perfectly
That’s how mine looks like. Replying from an actual alias works fine, but not from one of those catchall addresses.
Why?
Word of advise, avoid using catchall emails as now a days, some of the sites flag catchall domains as email re-directors and will not allow you to signup or validate with their site with your domain. I used to have some of my domains as catch all as i tended to sign up with websites with a unique ID so I can track which sites are selling my email addresses based on which emails receive spam. But in the recent years, I started seeing my catch all domains being soft barred, where the sites do not send the verification email to my catchall domains. After a bit of research, it turns out they'll try to send a email to a random address, like [email protected] and if the site accepts it, it'll NOT send any email to that domain.
I got around the issue by creating multiple mail aliases forwarding emails to a single inbox. All random email addresses in the domain are rejected so the sites are more then happy to validate my email address as legit and not a "free email redirection service"
Thanks, that makes sense. Are there any email clients that help to generate aliases on the go? Manageable from webmail with a few clicks, but it would be good to have such a feature. I tried eM Client on iOS, and it has a create alias option, but it seems to create only locally, and sending or receiving doesn’t work.
Why?
did you enable send from catch-all in eM Client?
what I use is a self hosted version of addy.io for a domain that I use for aliases only, there is a browser extension that can automatically create aliases for sites and keeps note on what site it is used for etc, there is even a BitWarden link for it to generate a new email for sites when you make accounts.
then I use namecrane as the stmp relay for this alias service that then gets sent to another domain hosted on namecrane where all my emails get stored.
addy.io will automatically hide you main email address when replying to emails etc
I had to create my own script that takes inputs from my Telegram bot and passes it to my Virtualmin website panel to create/list/delete aliases for my domains. It's easy to do on cPanel as well using a simple script, but I am not aware of any client that is able to do it since it needs to be done from the backend by editing the server's main processor...
Some improvements went out tonight
Mobile ActiveSync now supports 2FA, just use your IMAP or MAPI/EWS password! we've also enabled Calendar & Contact syncing. iPhone users will need to go to
Settings > Accounts, click yourExchangeaccount, and enableContactsandCalendarsin the sync list. Remote Global Address List searching will be implemented once Smartermail adds backend support.Enjoy!

Wait there are erections in here and I missed them?
The Yeti has left the building.
@NameCrane and @Francisco - is it possible to add proper IPv6 with your hosting plans? Right now a /128 needs to be asked from support, and that works on just 1 domain from the shared hosting plans. If other domains are added, those websites display the content of that one domain instead (just over IPv6).
Maybe you could configure for hosting plans something like a /64 for each customer, and each website gets a /128 from that /64 - just a thought. Right now /128 creates more problems with its improper implementation.

Each DA shared gets a dedicated v6. A reseller gets a single v6 to share with all users but can ask for more in ticket.
On cpanel each user gets their own v6, no sharing anywhere.
It’s all about how each panel handles v6.
Francisco
Yeah, but that v6 works on just one domain in DA. Even in the panel on DNS settings it is showed for just 1 domain. So if that v6 is configured for other domains, the website of that one domain is showed across other domains too (instead of each proper domain's website). This behaviour would be nice, if every domain would get a different /128.
So it does not work with 1 /128 and it does not configure different /128 either.

If you need my customer ID or something, I can provide it to have a look. But my guess is you can reproduce it. Server is Las Vegas shared 02 - if it helps.

These offers look excellent. Time to get a credit card out!
Hi @NameCrane I missed this post earlier this year - if we have an existing lifetime in the Nevada location is there an option to migrate to Amsterdam? thanks
@NameCrane is the company Canadian like BuyVM, or is it headquartered in the US, or where? Thanks.
I thought BuyVM and BuyShared were American.
IDK the current situation with BuyVM but it was originally Canadian and the "client area" link from the home page still goes to my.frantech.ca.
Great. That is handy.
When will the contact list import limit be raised over 10 MB?
Is that a SmarterMail imposed limit or something else?
🔧 BikeGremlin guides & resources
I could not find a cheaper price per GB of storage - plus it is one-time payment so no card/payment worries (even though the subscription price is very low too ($20 per three years for a 100 GB plan).
Not super stable for transactional emails (some SmarterMail bug that software vendor should fix), a bit slower compared to MXroute (IMAP sync and general operation) but OK for normal email correspondence.
If those small wrinkles get ironed out it will be awesome. I have risked with a lifetime hoping for the best (and supporting the project with my money).

Drop a ticket and i'll take a look

Its possible we've simply pushed SM a bit too hard though their devs don't think that.
Thankfully EU & US2 don't have the same issue.
Francisco
See ticket #CRANE-18478 from 2025-12-12.
It sounds like this is specific to the US1 cluster.
Is there a plan to remediate US1, or would migration to EU or US2 be the practical solution for affected users?
What would you recommend?
Waiting for a fix is also an option, but this is turning into months now. Is there any rough expected time for this to be fixed?

By the way I asked about the company location because some potential users are avoiding US companies for privacy reasons.
