We already push when sold to our discord, let's add drop pings too soonish.

Yes, they are rarer drop for the performance demand. The actual cost in these is the performance. Hence plenty of storage box available, little seedboxes.

It is called a storage box. You want more? Get a seedbox.

Väinämöinen, I hope that there are no hard feelings between us. Here on LES, I'm just an ordinary user, so perhaps we can be friends! :)

Yeah, it's understandable with the boxes, but the seedbox will be the same? I've been a pulsed client since who knows when, was actually hoping the 100mb/s after the limit will be more someday (as providers alike are doing) but knowing it'll be down to 25mb, yeah, i'll be out when that happens. Nevertheless will grab a promo these days.

  • Hey just a comment I noticed in https://pulsedmedia.com/data/v1/eternal-orders.json it has the first names of people who ordered as well as their country? that seems like protected info and I don't know if people consented or wanted their data to go out there like that plus potential GDPR issues

There's a feed in the PulsedMedia Discord that effectively posts the same info (first name and country) on every purchase, so seems kinda intentional.

Granted, I dont know why that "feature" was considered a good idea.

Just, for no reason - How much of your infrastructure is vibecoded vs coded by hand? Say a rough percentage?

Pseudonymous. This is standard practice and as per EU not considered personally identifiable. There are A LOT of webshops which do this, ecommerce industry standard.

I am geniunely impressed with Väinämöinen and the level of support it can provide. I have asked it to make changes to my storagebox including non-standard setups and it has explained how to do it or done so with my express permission.

With that said not sure how I feel about this part from a recent support email sign-off...

And the referrer gets 2.5% -- up to 20% of bonus! <-- this just got increased.

€29 MRR vs 21 claims . It's obvious that's going to be the MRR

I'm curious about physical configuration here, drive type, overprovision, network bandwidth?
The price is fantastic, but with current prices of bandwidth and disks, I can't figure out how this is profitable, much less sustainable in the long run.
One failed disk of reasonable size wipes out your MRR in one shot at current prices.

  • @PulsedMedia said:

Does this mean people who claim after the milestone don't get +2 weeks? I.e. only the first 200 claims and/or $500 MRR?

    MAGIC lol
So we estimate all these user will remain with us for 16 to 36 months, so 1x 1.99€ sale is actually 32 to 70€, not 1.99€. Gross. Paypal fees at this level are disgusting tho! A surprisingly large fraction of people also prepay for up to 3 years, hitting ROI immediately on newly purchased hardware.

Further, we already have petabytes free, and we have been doing this for 15+ years. We just eliminated the biggest cost for us; SUPPORT. Väinämöinen handles almost all of it, and gets better every single week.

It is the volume which makes this profitable. 4900 slots and average right now is what 2.50€ per month or so.
There will be some more on the higher end of the range, and some ... surprise types which will drive different kind of resource use primarily to max out the hardware.

We already have a total of 100+ new 3.5" bays about to be provisioned within a month. ... 100x 28TB? ;) Nawh not quite, we are recycling A LOT of our 12-18TB drives from old nodes into these, and then buying some new 24 to 28TB nodes.
These are all fully paid, without debt, no leases or anything --- one could even argue literally straight out of my pocket, as i could just take that out as profit too and go enjoy a Chang at Koh Samui or Phi Phi 🤷

We also use RAID5/RAID10, and The Law Of Big Numbers; Average annual failure rates hover around the 2% mark, so we just calculate that in, every TB Year costs ~2% for the replacements (plus remote hands fees, those are actually larger).

This is massively ran by the laws of big numbers, and eliminating idiot tax everywhere we can, streamline etc.

The overprovisioning figures are conservative, but i'd be lying if i didn't say "the idlers" are not part of the profitability equation.

However, the magic is long term horizon thinking. The buzz, the regular seedbox sales. We just sold 1800€/month worth of dedis because of this promos. When seeing those orders i was WTF? too; They aren't exactly cost leaders, but value packed because of how integrated we are and finnish legal system. I don't like selling dedis like that, too much manual labour involved.

The cost efficiencies we run are just mind boggling, i haven't even been to the DC myself in .... hmm, not certain if i went there in December/January, might be september. No i am not joking. Second DC is ready to be taken operational. We own ourselves everything but the buildings.

Under the surface we have massive amounts of capacity we can bring online, owning the full stack from infra to software is the major cost leverage -- which we have not been leveraging for years, and now we are.

Thank You for the excellent question, this was top of my head stream of thought, but i realize; I should probably do a proper write up of this.
I fully realize the pricing seems too good to be true.

Just rest assured, when we sell 4900 slots at average of 2.50€ each, this is profitable for us. We've got a plan! ;)

Honestly answered everything I wanted to know. Z+ wasn't above the cost average because I lacked critical mass of clients, so wanted to see how it was working out. Congrats on the sales, and I hope it keeps going well through the storm!

    Grab Your Slots Fast!

As soon as i get the last elements of this campaign done .... well not last elements, but the next major steps -- the hard launch steps are upon us.

The milestones are about full etc. but once the hard launch happens, i expect fully all to sell out constantly.

LowEndSpirit was the first external place we discussed about this at all. Thanks to the Shadowban on the other green one, we chose this route. BUT, we will release this on other forums too as we release the 700-year giveaway details. Yes, 700-year giveaway ;)

    New Milestone: Refers

This is not yet released on the site; but referring a friend milestones will be added soon. Just finishing up some details this week to release those too. I can say this for the FIRST milestone; Everyone referred gets +1Month to their service, and Referee (who referred) gets a credit bonus.

This goes as part of the @ZizzyDizzyMC 's question too, part of the equation how the F#!#£@ we can do this :)

    Drop Algo Fixes

The drop algo is being fixed, it had issues throwing in too many slots etc.

Referral milestones released ... just when first step was reached

    🤝 Referral milestones

🎯 10 referrals — 11 so far → +1 week on every claimed box, each referrer wins +1 month, each referred friend +2 weeks
🔒 25 referrals → every referrer +1 month — and the earliest referrals earn their referrer double; referred friends +2 weeks

    claim milestones progressing too;

    🎯 Claim milestones

✅ 100 claimed — reached → the brand-new SSD Seedbox tier, live in the boxes above
✅ 200 claimed — reached → +2 weeks of service on every box already claimed, AND the 8TB Seedbox gains 10 more slots
🎯 300 claimed — 208 so far → the mystery, revealed — it's a race to the line: +2 weeks on every claimed box, claims #290–#299 each win +1 month, and claim #300 itself wins +3 months

@PulsedMedia Any chance of getting a limit one per customer on the rarer drops?

Eh? Getting rare drop is easy. I don't even bought the 8TB when it's in stock because I'm waiting for Dragon-R.
    (100x easier than getting $3.2/y 2c3G fat32)

  • I didn't expect them all to drop so quickly. Granted, I haven't looked at the algo very closely.

  • @PulsedMedia Does the disk space quota shown now include bonus disk space?

Before I had 934 GB disk, 92 GB bonus space.
Now it shows 1002 GB disk, and still also 92 GB bonus.
Quite puzzling. Do I have 1094 now?

The larger seedbox also has the base value increased.

It was 934 with 92 GB bonus, now it is 1002. Why only 68 GB added, and not 92 then?

the quota display takes 15mins to update, while the bonus number is instant.

    910 + 92 == 1002. Easy maths.

    1002-68 -> 934
    934+92 = 1126
