Really cheap San Jose VPS

Anyone have recommendations? Very tiny is fine - 128/256MB RAM, 5GB disk or less. Local cache for some JS/CSS. DDoS protection unnecessary but would be nice. Xen PV, Xen HVM, VMware, or KVM required.

Can pay with PP or BTC. Ideally less than 2-3ms to Internap SJC or Santa Clara.

    VIrmach?

E: Oh. They won't let you do 256s in San Jose now likely due to abuse. Sucks.

TinyKVMs' LA spot is about 8ms from if that's good enough.

  • No CC, unfortunately. Generally weird results.

  • If Fremont might be close enough then check with @freerangecloud

  • just checked to confirm - getting 2 sometimes 3 ms ping from freerangecloud in Fremont to Virmach in San Jose

@freerangecloud will probably be your best bet for cheap mini deal (might be able to get something for $15 yearly)

other options, not exactly cheap: AquaNX (San Jose) and Atlantic.net (Santa Clara)

He doesn't want Virmach. He wants InterNap in San Jose.

@WSS - thanks, indeed I am suggesting freerangecloud - just using VirMach to test ping time from freerangecloud in Fremont.

figuring if it can do 2 ms ping to Virmach in San Jose, chances are decent could see similar latency from freerangecloud in Fremont to InterNap in San Jose.

    That is all. :)

Virmach's US West locations seem to be very... random when it comes to performance. I assume because of the huge amount of VPN users running there.

The destination for NFS/etc is Internap SJ. This VPS can be mostly anywhere close enough.

I remember when InterNap came to ask us to use them and we were like PFFT we dual homed, we got a T1 and another T1. Whatchuu want bitch?

Of course, that was 1999, so..

We do a $15/yr special, 512MB RAM, 15GB disk in Fremont (thanks for tagging us in @uptime). If you send me an IP I can ping it from our infra and let you know what the latency is. Alternatively, our looking glass is: http://fmt.lg.freerangecloud.com/

  • Is Seattle OK? FWIW, I live near San Jose and Cloudflare often routes via Seattle for me. MrVM has a location in Seattle, as does RamNode. Los Angeles might give you slightly better pings to the Bay Area though.
