I am looking for a wifi extender for the garage, any suggestions? I put this in front of the virgin router

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075WFL15D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It made a significant difference in reaching the corners of the house and nobody has any complaints about wifi now. It is ok out in the garage but when trying to stream anything through the firestick it stutters and freezes like crazy, just not a consistent/reliable signal out there.

Any suggestions as to what would be the best option to resolve or at least improve?

I do have builders in at the moment including an electrician, considering asking him to start doing some cat5 cabling but would rather avoid that as there is no easy routes and the walls are all double skin brick.

  • I've saved so much money this year by deleting my prime

Great thread. Let us know what you guys end up getting! I'm not seeing anything I need..... yet(tm)

  • @AnthonySmith said: have you considered a powerline adaptor with wifi?

That is what I was thinking, just wasn't sure if these were more snake oil than a solution.

Well, I only use amazon for deals or watching movies.
I agree if you buy regular everything, you spend a lot more.

How do the prime day prices compare to BF prices? Is it even in the same ball park?

It depends, sometimes the discount is less or equal to the regular discount.
Sometimes its the best discount you ever seen.

For example the Fire 10 HD for 77€ is a fucking bargain.
If you look at LET, you see sometimes regular discounts which get advertised on BF as the best discount they ever had, which is a lie.

  • Amazon Prime sale (and Flipkart) both begin this weekend here. Happy to keep the money in my wallet till then.

They work, I have 3 foot thick stone walls from the 1700’s in the original part of my house that just gobble up WiFi like a back hole, if power line adaptors did not exist I would have had to move :)

I buy it to try it.
I know that the Fire 7 sucks, in terms of performance.

Fire 8 is decent with 2GB and Fire 10 has bigger display + more dpi so good for Netflux.

That's why I always use the CamelCamelCamel website to check the price history on anything at Amazon.

Was thinking about getting a Xiaomi Smart Scale 2 for the cool extras like body fat measuring but reading a lot that is way off the actual numbers so might just skip on it.

I think @vyas had one but dont remember exactly. Was the body fat count looking kinda "realistic"?

    @AnthonySmith thanks for reporting! I snatched the GL-AR750S-Ext one for ~60EUR: https://www.amazon.de/GL-iNet-GL-AR750S-Ext-Gigabit-pre-Installed-Included/dp/B07GBXMBQF/

Damn... I didn't plan to spend more.. Looks tempting :P

  • I wonder whether I should feel bad that I'm not a Prime customer ... :(

  • tbh this years prime day sales seemed a bit lackluster to me. alot of stuff "onsale" seemed to be reg price

:) Yeah I figure it's a good investment. I'm up to my eyeballs in Excel all day and do tech/gaming after hours so time for a proper screen.

Plug the link into camelcamelcamel to see price history. That'll help you unpick whats a real special & what is not

As a general rule I've found that anything Amazon is likely to feature on it's front page (echos, kindles etc) is subject to the effect you describe. Stuff like storage can def be legit cheaper though

You might have benefited from one horizontal screen and one vertical screen. Vertical screens for web browsing, and excel are amazing

I'd love to but the layout doesn't work. New screen is as wide as the desk. So the older one will need to be on top on horizontal

...assuming I can find a rigid screen arm which is proving tricky

Ya you would have needed to go with a smaller screen then another with a built in arm that allows for vertical ordination or an after market dual arm vesa mount.
