Launching OnePoundEmail to Sell MXroute Email Hosting

Hey LES friends, I'm launching a new project and want to let you all know about it.

I'm launching OnePoundEmail.co.uk - As many of you know, I enjoy being in the hosting industry, using DirectAdmin and providing services and support to other people in the community. But as you may also know I sold my last hosting business a year ago because of my unhappiness in the industry at that time. I made a lot of mistakes in the past with my businesses and I learned a lot. I will be keeping OnePoundEmail simple, this is a sole-trader brand and not a company, and I don't have any intention to try and build a company at the moment nor to expand and try and build a global empire. My pricing is affordable but not too affordable that it takes the piss out of my provider. Some plans might be cheaper directly, some plans might be cheaper via me but ultimately I plan to provide added value to stand out in the crowd.

Have a look at the website here: https://onepoundemail.co.uk

Didn't MXroute move away from Hetzner (DE servers)?
The prices offered might be very slightly profitable by using MXroute reseller.

  • Best wishes @MichaelCee

Don't go super cheap this time. LE friendly, yes!!

MXroute is great - been using it for years (along with many other forum members as far as I know).
The only "downside" of the service is the tech. support.
They fix any problems, but (generally, officially) offer no hand-holding - you should know how to set everything up yourself.
If a company can offer good tech. support on top of the MXroute infrastructure - it's a good fit for most of the "non-tech." people I know. I'd recommend a thing like that.

  • Jarlandino may supply dedicated server in x location for whitelabel resellers. Just have money. This is definitely mxroute smell. Pungent.

  • MichaelCeeMichaelCee ModeratorProviderOG Cymru

Yes, I’m reselling mxroute. Handled by the pros so I can just do me. The intention is basically as @bikegremlin says. I’m paying standard pricing and there is some leeway for profit as mentioned above. As this isn’t a company there won’t be massive marketing or expansions and the costs will be kept simple. If they do a discounted reseller, I’ll hop on and lower my average cost but whereas the last time I sold mxroute I was solely profiting from BF deals, this time I’m happy to pay full price and mould my pricing based on that.

  • Hey, there's an issue with the DirectAdmin Portal. Already sent a ticket (to sales).

In an ironic turn of events, my first action as a mod will be to edit my own post for breaking the $5/m email rule. Happy Wednesday!

Didn't know there was a separate rule for email.
I hope sale goes well. MXroute with added support sounds like it should be a good fit for many.

Appreciate all the support. I just paid my accountancy fee so I'm here again to shill myself to you lovely folk.

As I planned before I have now added a new service for inbound migrations to OnePoundEmail. I have some double checks to do with the multitude of platforms people use so I have just listed DirectAdmin/cPanel as the source for now as I'm very confident with those panels.

Pricing is a difficult one so I'm starting simple at £1 per 100 emails (maybe 250?). I honestly don't know what's fair value at the moment so I will have to complete a few orders and see the time taken to further adjust pricing.

So did I, and my accountant asked me to go slow on idlers ;-)

Jokes apart, Charge what you think is best worth your time. The post by @jarland on OGF about the 12,000 domains was quite a revelation

  • Company called OnePoundEmail has a plan priced at TwoPoundsFifty.

    Clear scam.

Not only joking @MichaelCee glad to see you back in the hosting world in some form!

  • I'd forgotten about this. Are you planning these prices for a while or just as an introductory rate?

I'm hoping to keep this pricing structure for as long as I can. We're definitely good for the rest of 2022 on that front though.

Will the name change when the pricing goes up?

  • I just bought a package ❤️

  • Twopoundandseventyfivepencepermonthemail.co.uk is a better name I agree! 😛

Just off to register that now

Just register all the domains up to a tenner, and he'll be forced to never change the prices!

It’s been almost a month since I launched this new project and I’m happy with how things look. A couple of community folk signed up and are contributing a decent chunk toward the upstream bill so thank you to those!

I’ve created a few different Break-Even Analysis reports for each package scenario but there’s about 8 or so £1 sales needed to break even currently, assuming 35p is lost in fees for each sale. Cost per unit should go down as the reseller plan gets upgraded.

Im also looking to launch as many add on services as possible. Last week I added inbound migrations, this week I’ve added DNS record set up for third party dns. £1 one time.

When the next Blesta version is released I should be able to bulk import a shit ton of domain TLDs to sell as an extra too. Looking forward to it!

    Cheers!

P.S. Also bought the .com 😀

  • Why DirectAdmin, out of interest? (Personally, I'm a fan, but for email only hosting I'm not sure of the value for money...).

I believe Mxroute (Provider) moved to DA from cPanel after the 1st, 3rd or 200th price increase. They probably have plans to develop something in house one day so I don’t know what I’ll do then. From my side of things, I wouldn’t have gone for a cPanel based provider as I tend not to touch that anymore unless somebody is paying me big bucks. What’s your take? What panel would be value for money, email only?

Ah, I forgot you were reselling Mxroute - that explains DA. Personally, I think all the big control panels are overkill for email only, but then there isn’t really a commercial email only panel.

I’d likely go with something custom in PHP for a panel with a postfix/dovecot setup, but as you’re reselling choosing the tech stack isn’t really an option. No doubt @jarland has a longer term plan in mind for something custom.

Might do a little consolidation and merge my backend Blesta portal for my two projects in to one. Not quite sure yet, but it would be both positive and negative. Little more thought needed and some planning first.

Regarding this, clients should receive an email later this week or early next week. TL;DR, 2 x billing platforms will merge to 1 x billing platforms.

I am doing it manually as we're early days and it's all good. Currently all clients are done just need to import the billing and services and confirm everything else is set up properly. I've got a VPS set up so I can start importing mail to the ticket system too. Looking forward to it.

The client portals for both HelpMyIT and OnePoundEmail are now one in the same. All clients emailed. Some IDs may have changed and not all support tickets have been imported, especially tickets that contained sensitive data before blesta allowed encrypted data within tickets. That specific data will be permanently deleted within the next couple of weeks once the dust settles.

Just wanted to leave a note to thank peeps here for signing up. OnePoundEmail is now profitable pre-fees (I know, it's a technicality).

    Thank you!

Posting in this thread as my latest is for a promo that's already over so didn't want to create confusion.

A little under a month later and now profitable post-fees and looking to expand to the next MXroute plan soon if growth continues at this rate.

I will post a small something something for this years BF in celebration so stay tuned!
