Wow this is neat. It's on the large side compared to some alternatives, but it is cheap and capacious and probably uses less power than a similar ESP32 board. Thanks for the alert. There is also of course the Raspberry Pi Zero at $5 that has been around for a while.

Chromium & VLC have been optimised. VLC even does X265 4K. A 4K@60Hz desktop resolution too. But don't think the Pi can do HDR yet.

Keep in mind that overclocking the pi 4b is trivial, with a good PSU you can go to 2 - 2.2 GHz with a $1 heat sync and a good quality PSU.

That allows it to do a fair bit more.

Yeah many will give you 5V / 2A but some weaker ones only deliver 5V/1A/1.3A or less but really my point was more about being able to offer that for hours and hours on end at a stable rate if you put some load on a generic USB charger and them measure the draw on a component you might see s shitty one wavering from 4.7V to 5.25V rapidly

Voltage regulators take care of that in most things but when overclocking a pi on already low voltage things get super sensitive.

I still have the original one, stashed/languishing behind the TV.
It has heat sinks, bridged USB diodes (IIRC) and a clear case - reminds me of Orac, post 'stabilised atomic implosion'.

This is great for industrial side as well, the biggest issues with Linux board systems are community support and Linux and documentations, Raspberry PI did that very well. We are prototyping ESP32 solutions, now this is better alternative for many use cases.

sparkfun.com had pi pico in stock last night, limit qty 100 which is a lot. It's cool that the pi foundation is doing this but I wonder if it brings new capabilities that weren't available with the ESP32 and e.g. the Longan Nano, at similar price points to the pi pico.

The pi 400 apparently has a rather crappy keyboard and no way to replace the keyboard if it breaks. So I'm likely to stay with a 4B and a USB keyboard, if I go for a pi4 at all.

The Pi4 is fussy AF. Not just the power supply but cable too. If uncertain try to get the official charger. Most Anker ones seem to work too though.

Official one is 5.1V 3.0A 15.3W

I don't see much point to a wifi version that will be more expensive. Just get an ESP32 module, or a pi zero W.

That's a compact re ryzen box on special for $400. Nice alternative to a Mac mini or NUC but not in anything like the sbc space.
