Budget unmetered bandwidth VPS/VDS?
Hey folks,
I've been looking for some budget VPS's on OGF for a while but seeing quite a few providers here that aren't on OGF, so I figured I'd just ask haha
Would anyone have offers for budget unmetered bandwidth VPS/VDS servers? Budget is ~$15/mo
- 2.5Gbps+, ideally 10Gbps
- Truly unmetered, as in won't throttle me to 10Mbps or change my plan mid way through the month or suddenly suspend me
- 8GB RAM minimum but 16GB would be lovely (maybe I'm delusional in this market)
- Flexible on region, US would be nice and exotic location is certainly a plus
- DMCA ignored is a plus but not really necessary
- Flexible on Intel/AMD, cores, etc. but-
- Won't suspend for high CPU usage. I do understand that a VPS is a VPS/shared, but I'm looking for something reliable - I would much rather be throttled than suspended.
Providers I have tried in the past-
- Cloudblast, they offered 10Gbps unmetered and it was great, a bit oversold on NL but UK was fast and amazing. I was able to push ~500TB+ in a month on the $10-20/mo plan. But they discontinued their unmetered bandwidth offering.
- Servury, which was fine until they added a bandwidth limit my plan half way through the month with no notice and throttled me to 10Mbps (I had paid for the full month)
- Linveo - good but need unmetered bandwidth
- Calibour - amazing service, huge thanks to Alyx for setting me up with a plan, I use it to host one of my highest traffic services. But, no unmetered bandwidth
- CentriXnodes - decent servers, terrible service and support, would never use them again lol
- BuyVM - excellent but 1Gbps
- URDN - excellent but 100mbps
- DeluxHost - I mean, DeluxHost is DeluxHost. What can I say. Anything negative is offset by that lovely yearly price
- SKRIME - I'm currently on SKRIME's legacy Intel plans and very very happy with the price, but I keep getting suspended for high CPU usage and it takes a day or two for them to unsuspend the server. I have throttled my services, etc. but doesn't seem to help
also a bit oversold but they claim to have fixed this so I need to check again. This would be my default if I can't find anything else but I would hope for something more reliable.
If anyone has any other providers (aside from the ones listed above) they recommend, or if any providers can give me an offer, I'd greatly appreciate it!
(I'm new on LES so if I did something wrong in this post I sincerely apologize, please just let me know!)

Can you give some examples of hosts that you can get 10 Gbit unmetered from for $15 per month, please?
No offence, but you seem to have some wild expectations here haha; I would love to be wrong though, because as it happens, i could also use what you are looking for right now for another project.

Well, Cloudblast used to but no longer does.
SKRIME still does.
CentriXnodes claims you are good to sustain 6-7Gbps but I wouldn't use them after my experience with them. Well, unless I'm really in a pinch.
Unesty (not a customer myself but a friend sustained 7Gbps on ~$15/mo iirc) does.
Few others I'm probably missing, if you do have a high bw project can dig up the full list
I know what I'm asking as a bit out of the ordinary, but I've seen many providers offer "unmetered, unlimited" bandwidth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not all follow through with this commitment, of course
hmm, so no one reliably does then, shame.
I guess there is a fair distinction between unlimited and unmetered and a FUP should be expected at low prices, implied or otherwise.

Yeah, though if they claim “unmetered unlimited” I do expect it to be unmetered / unlimited. “Unmetered FUP” is a different matter IMO.
Thankfully there are still some “unmetered unlimited” providers, just looking for more
Yeah, I will watch this thread. It will be interesting to see how many hosts can offer unlimited and unmetered 10 Gbit with no FUP at a lower cost in any country.

IMO even a FUP is acceptable so long as it is clearly stated, issue is a lot of these providers just state that "if you cause issues to other provdiers you will be banned."

Thanks, but I'd ideally hope to use more than 40TB
Not in this price bracket, the unlimited plans are either capped explicitly or implicitly by FUP or are a complacent oversight of the service provider who hopes the customer doesn't actually come to consume it. Plenty of stories have iterated this point.

Fair, I think you are right most of the time. But there are some exceptions.
For example, I told CentriXNodes and SKRIME in advance how much I was planning to use, and they were fine with it.
CloudBlast was also fine with my usage until everyone started doing the same thing
That's pretty much most of the cases when a provider needs to take action
Best and friendliest hosts Host-C , Hostbrr aff.
Yes, though funnily enough, I had a discussion with them about my usage beforehand. Heh.
But yeah, my usage was probably a bit excessive
Hey. This is a nice request, but there's a problem with this idea: true unmetered is significantly more expensive traffic-wise than that budget.
For you to have an idea, transit usually can go starting from 0.04€/Mbps at the bare minimum, and IXPs while they are at 0€, the port (and several times the membership as well) are paid, sometimes even more expensive than transit.
It's not technically possible to use 500TB on a 15 USD/month server for any provider and have a profit, and many will incur significant losses - that's because 500TB is roughly equivalent to a approx. 750/750 Mbps commit (the math is not exact, 660TB is 1/1 Gbps), 24/7/30. No provider is going to get that at less than 15 USD monthly, so no provider is going to sell that at 15 USD monthly even on the best traffic locations.
2.5 Gbps transit doesn't exist and the next best thing would be 10G. True unmetered 1G on a 1G line hovers around the 70 USD mark, true unmetered 10G on a 10G goes anywhere between 300/350 USD and well above 800 USD. Even diluted on a provider with e.g. 200 or 400 Gbps capacity at one site, you'd be looking at no less than 35/40 USD per month for that and it would be betting on not having many users like you, or the provider have some IXP ports to offset the traffic. And when a provider gets to 400 Gbps, they surely want to have much better usage for the existing capacity than with a single user valued only 15 USD per month.
The 8GB or 16GB RAM for 15 USD are not impossible by any means, even on the present market. But high CPU usage is a wild west among many providers and plans, surely not desired on a VPS, and 10G VMs are not frequent.
This means that the request as it is currently it's not really possible, sadly.
