Did you honestly use it often? Not a loaded question, to be honest; I did not even know it existed until someone said it's not working.
I use it all the time - it's my way of "catching" up so that the next visit shows "new" stuff. It's hard without it (for me) as otherwise I get lost on all the goings on.
LES and OGF have it right up there in the top banner/part and so it's really quick-n-easy to just skim, read whatever is interesting and mark all read so that the next visit is fresh.
Pretty please bring it back to the usual spot.
Oh sorry, my head is spinning today, I thought you were talking about drafts , ok.

Seems like a terrible idea. All you need is 5 alt/stolen accounts and you can get any new member banned. Imagine staff is away for a period of time, and a lot of people will get banned over this period because of that.
Its a fun idea, but it certainly needs manual approval by a staff member in the end. Its fuel for total chaos
I have similar views on the entire Reddit-style upvote/downvote system. I think it sucks, and "Thanks" alone is enough like in OG Vanilla. Its another thing that can be abused and fuel drama.

Well, my thinking was, you mess around and find the one you like; you are not switching theme in the middle of reading or posting, so effort/reward sum = reload is fine.
But maybe I am missing a common user case for switching themes; just because I don't see it does not make me right; happy to listen.
To me it the theme preference could change depending on the lighting conditions/ device used - especially when switching. I have rarely seen any implementation where page reload happens.
Wanted to simply point this out. It could be a low priority item.
Doing it for the main 3 (dark, light, grey) is fairly trivial, so thats done, hopefully that works for you. it still kind works when you go to vbulletin themes but not so much going back

No, no, I am completely serious. We really need this. As a patriotic European, we need this badge. It is also important for the other users, because it shows that you stand by the European General Data Protection Regulation and have fought your way through it – sometimes with crying fits and headaches along the way. So please add it.

If so, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me directly. I know I'm not one of the major contributors here, and I sometimes get the impression that I'm not particularly welcome. Even so, I'd genuinely like to remain part of the community if that's possible. If I did anything wrong, I'm very sorry. And please excuse me for going off topic.

I am not sure it's really working that well. Given the questions, why should a new member take these questions seriously - but then they get voted down because they didn't take the question seriously.
New members cannot see deals or offers sections, its all fully automatic.
But if not logged in, you can still see the deals and offers sections, so what's the point?
I seem to recall reading that, when Ken Thompson was having lunch at one of the restaurants on the Google campus, and other Googlers joined him, he started by saying, "I'm Ken. What are you working on?"
@AnthonySmith Maybe LES might make good use of the "What are you working on?" question by asking this question of potential new members?
Open to suggestions on the new member system I just ask that you consider the fact that it has not changed in reality, the only difference being now that they are asked 5 questions instead of 1 and they are allowed in on the say so if 5 people with a track record rather than 1 admin.
What it has stopped is answers in mandarin, and OBVIOUS bots now that stopforumspam and cloudflare turnstile is in place, but functionally it's the same as the last 8 years, answer a question or 2 and you are in if we allow you in.
Making life hard for new people to engage with the community will kill the community as it's on a negative trend and needs more people to join in.

Making life hard for new people to engage with the community will kill the community as it's on a negative trend and needs more people to join in.
Most people are busy downvoting new members since:
Their name isn't shown if they downvote
No justification is required to downvote
They assume everyone joining is a bot
To be honest, looks like the new member system needs a complete rework. Leaving it up to community was a good idea but since there is no accountability, people are just doing whatever they want.
Since your target is to "increase" user count, getting most new signups banned seems the opposite of what you want for LES.
So this is what I propose. Feel free to pick and choose what you like:
Use the old system of letting mods/admins validate new users
Let the new users on "provisional" access, where they need "X" posts in existing threads (or X karma points) before they can open a discussion.
Just like upvote, record who is downvoting. No need to make it public, just something visible only to mods/admins only.
Make the downvote more involved. Like reporting, it should ask the user why they are downvoting the post, specially if you want to keep the +5/-5 vote/downvote rule for new users.
I speak fluent sarcasm and broken logic. | I would agree with you, but thæn we’d both be wrong.

Well, looks like you will have very few signups at the rate this is going:

Most people are busy downvoting new members since:
To be honest, looks like the new member system needs a complete rework. Leaving it up to community was a good idea but since there is no accountability, people are just doing whatever they want.
Since your target is to "increase" user count, getting most new signups banned seems the opposite of what you want for LES.
So this is what I propose. Feel free to pick and choose what you like:
I will start a dedicated discussion about the LES sign up system later today and we will get to the bottom of it.

the new member threads are spamming the overview. do you have any idea how this can be handled better?
I like the new member threads, but I guess not everyone is in agreement. I guess a "show/hide" filter may be needed (if possible)...
I will start a thread about it later today and we can all discuss it and come up with a way to handle it better.

I think it's better to make pinned thread meant for the new user. Encourage new user to interact with the rest of community
Have I missed something ?
We have many different categories for posts but no easy way of selecting them.
How about (for those that dont want to see newbie posts) allow a drop down with select all or deselect what you don't want to see etc.

To me it seems like the newbie posts are best suited to the vBulletin style theme at the moment at least

Ahh - I am using 'light' and have no way (that I can see) of looking at a category unlike the vBulletin style.
