(Quote) You can now bid for your server on eBay.

I doubt yet another thread about it will magically solve your problem

Although realistically, even a /64 would be enough for mortals.

(Quote) Virmach had plenty of issues (although nearly all my VPSes survived) but he never had this weird memory crap going on.

I concur; I've just rebooted and I'm sat watching htop as my memory drops steadily from 3.5G; it's just about at 1G now, once it drops to 300M, init goes into permanent diskwait - I'm guessing they've massively oversold on m…

(Quote) When one of your selling points is that your "big in enterprise hosting", it doesn't seem hugely unreasonable to ask you to back that up. If you're not willing to reveal the "big enterprise" provider you claim …

(Quote) Did you ever get any response out of Vive? I'd kind of forgotten my idler there, but having just logged on and found this 4G machine now has a random amount of memory between 300M-500M, something is definitely up.

(Quote) You can use access your emails by app and browser on just about any mail service (and certainly the Gmail app used to allow you to add any IMAP account, not sure if it still does); as for storage, well they're going to be stored somewhe…

(Quote) A lot of people prefer Gmails front end, and so they forward everything into it. No, it doesn't make any sense to me either, but people are weird.

(Quote) To be fair, GDPR was never about making your emails or phone calls private. It's just a framework to stop companies abusing personal data (not that it's hugely effective, but that's a whole different can of worms) And it only…

(Quote) A year ago, I'd have agreed with you. These days, not so sure.

Holy necroposting, batman!

Is there any RAID on the storage? Pretty tasty looking cold-storage prices...
-
Probably depends on use cases - if I was looking at it for storage, it would be for backups in which case price would be more important than performance. I'd be more than happy with network-attached if it knocked a few cents off the price per T…

Whereabouts on the roadmap is IPv6? Will open up some other use options for me...

(Quote) Ahh! Yes, I'd forgotten that - I think that was why i put the secondary contact on there, but then ended up pulling that domain elsewhere (partly, but not exclusively, for this reason).
-
(Quote) I'm not sure what policy that is; my contact details at NC are hosted elsewhere for that very reason (and the account has a secondary contact on gmail, with the same logic) edit: unless you mean Namecrane's support email being hos…

(Quote) Hmm; might be Debian13 being ... debian, but I'll see if I can track it down further! Might be location dependent - CA works fine, but London borks. I think it's OpenDNS rejecting queries, possibly rate-limiting because the NAT se…

If you create a new instance and set your DNS Resolvers to OpenDNS, it seems to break DNS - their resolvers appear to be configured on the VPS end, so I'm guessing it's breaking somewhere in the NAT? (I would investigate further, but with…

(Quote) Not in the .co.uk they haven't. (well, strictly speaking we haven't made any this year because there's no demand, but they're not yet being phased out)

Yeah it does :)

(Quote) Fair enough; it's not the way I'd view it but you do you. I give your reluctance to reveal your to secret company number bizarre, but if that's the way you want to work obviously that's up to you. I'll leave you to …

(Quote) The Companies (Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2008 would disagree with you about what the appropriate stage is.

"Offer terms must be clearly stated in the title or body of the offer."

(Quote) So there's no company as yet? Not that it particularly matters, but that's not quite what your "Company About" page implies.

It says they're a UK company, but that can't be right because they'd have their company number and registered offices listed there...

I have to say the way you carefully avoid answering questions doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

WavifyPro ate my dog, and it's clumsy attempts at SEO made my chickens cry.

(Quote) It's a commercial relationship - I don't see how you're going to make a "free speech" argument stick.

I was going to ditch a couple of mystery boxes that came up for renewal until I noticed the price was biennial rather than annual. They're remarkably solid boxes for 10 bucks a year.
